Applications are currently open for Leadership Alameda.
Since there are still many of you who don’t know what that is, I have shared some of the questions I hear most often below:
Do I have to be a student to apply for Leadership Alameda?
There are no age or degree requirements for Leadership. Anyone over 18, who has a curious mind and is interested in our community and leadership should apply.
Is there a cost for Leadership?
Leadership Alameda is an intensive leadership program that extends from September through June with sessions once a month for the entire day. We meet with some of the top leaders in our community on subjects that are important to everyone, no matter what industry you work in.
Yes, there’s a cost. Some employees may be eligible to have that cost covered by their employer.
Current tuition is $1,495 for chamber members ($1,695 for nonmembers). Tuition includes all sessions, lunches, break refreshments, class materials, field trips, graduation dinner, and ceremony. Tuition must be paid in full before the first class session.
Who benefits from Leadership Alameda?
That is one of the things that makes Leadership so special. The class member learns our community’s interworkings and invaluable leadership skills updated for our current times. They also enjoy hands-on learning sessions as well as networking that could expand their personal and professional connections in life-changing ways.
Additionally, as a community leader and participant in Leadership Alameda, they represent their business to other community leaders and bring attention to their industry, expertise, and organization.
Who should apply for Leadership Alameda?
People of all ages with an interest in business and leadership development or community leadership are encouraged to apply. We’re looking for individuals from various backgrounds who want to be an advocate for the business community.
It’s also a terrific opportunity for new residents, new employees, and new business owners. There’s no better way to make these types of valuable connections with your new community.
Leadership Alameda is an excellent resource for professional development.
How often is it offered?
Leadership Alameda is offered every year with the application window open in late spring through early summer. Once that application window closes, you must wait until the next year to apply.
That’s why–if you’re interested–it’s essential to act now.
How do I apply?
There’s an application form to fill out. It’s located here.
What’s required or expected of me as a student of Leadership?
We have an attendance commitment and expect you to attend every session. If you miss more than two sessions, you will not graduate.
As a participant in Leadership, we expect you to come to each session ready to learn and understand the importance of the agency or area, highlighted that day. Go into the program with a curious and open mind and you will experience a large return on your time investment both in knowledge and connections.
When does Leadership start?
There will be a welcome event in September as well as an introductory session before that. Graduation occurs mid June every year.
How do I know if I’ve been selected?
Because we want to keep our class sizes small and conducive to learning and connecting, we cap them at 30 participants.
While our application window may go until the end of June or July, it’s important to apply early because once we receive 30 qualified applicants, we close the application window.
Apply today.
Once your application has been received, it will be reviewed by the Leadership committee (comprised of chamber and foundation staff as well as Leadership alums) and applicants will be notified.
We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2025.
