This Monday is Memorial Day and I want to extend a heartfelt message of gratitude to all those who have served our nation, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer.
It is a somber time to honor the fallen heroes – the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to the United States. It’s a day to reflect on their courage, dedication, and the enduring legacy they leave behind. It’s also a time to support their families.
These heroes not only protected our nation but also embodied the very values that fuel our democracy: liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. These values are the foundation upon which our businesses thrive, our communities prosper, and our families live in peace.
As we remember the fallen, let us also acknowledge the veterans who continue to carry the weight of their service. Their sacrifices extend far beyond the battlefield, and their contributions to our society are invaluable.
We encourage our members, and the Alameda community, to find ways to honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day.
Here are a few ideas:
- Attend a local Memorial Day ceremony. There’s one at the USS Hornet at 11.
- Visit a veteran’s cemetery and place flags on graves.
- Volunteer your time at a veterans’ organization.
- Reach out and thank a veteran for their service.
- Share a memory of that person with the family who has lost a loved one.
Let us use this Memorial Day as an opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
With deepest respect.
