Tennis Association

Mission: To promote and develop the growth of tennis as an inclusive and inviting lifetime activity in the Northern California section.

The United States Tennis Association, Northern California section (USTA NorCal) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) association led by a volunteer board and employs a staff of 36 at the section headquarters in Alameda. We serve a membership of more than 51,000 tennis enthusiasts and we invest 100 percent of our proceeds on the game we all love.

The association serves many different audiences to grow the game at all levels and abilities. Among the great programs we support are:

· 12 and Under – Red, Orange & Green Tennis

· Juniors

· Adult Leagues

· Adult Tournaments

· Schools and National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL)

· Community Tennis Associations, Public Parks and Clubs

· Partner and Service Organizations

· Tennis on Campus

· Pro Circuit and US Open regional competition

· Wheelchair/Adaptive

Here are some of our accomplishments in 2014:

· Run 10 adult leagues serving more than 22,000 players

· Host 13 adult league championship events

· Hold 134 sanctioned NTRP, Senior, Open, Family and Wheelchair adult tournaments

· Offset a portion of costs for juniors to participate in national championship events

· Teach nearly 4,000 kids aged 10 and under life lessons like sportsmanship, honesty and integrity while also developing their tennis skills through the H.I.T.S. program

· Introduce 400 underserved youth in Northern California to tennis through the annual NJTL Rally, a day that highlights a program that seeks to develop the character of young people by reaching out to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to play tennis, instill in kids the values of leadership and academic excellence and give all kids (regardless of income, race, gender) the opportunity to fully develop their tennis skills so they can derive a lifetime of enjoyment from the sport

· Fund 16-18 scholarships annually totaling $32,000-$36,000 to support and encourage diverse and multicultural participation among high school students entering college

· Grow Junior Team Tennis significantly by providing stipends to motivate Local League Organizers to run leagues in local communities throughout Northern California, especially in areas where teams and competition is sparse

· Help communities resurface their courts to provide safe, appealing and functional tennis environments to help promote lifelong healthy activity and improve their programming by advancing the latest tennis innovations for all program types, including adding blended lines for 10 and under tennis

· Supply tennis equipment and programming free of charge for schools and youth organizations like YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Police Activities Leagues and Girl and Boy Scouts. We continually reach out to underserved communities to spread the message that tennis is a sport of opportunity.

· Provide grants through the Foundation to support diversity and inclusion, equipment and facility assistance, training for coaches and umpires/referees and player development.

USTA NorCal promotes and develops the growth of tennis to ensure that the sport stays relevant, which can only be done when we are able to make it accessible and attractive to many. Please visit us online for more information about the programs mentioned above.
