Business Services

AL Consulting

My practice is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs grow meaningful, profitable businesses by communicating complex ideas and translating cutting edge theories into hands-on strategies and solutions that you can understand and use today to take your business to the next level.

In addition to my business consulting practice, I also teach undergraduate Business Strategy at the College of Business at San Francisco State University.  Before launching my practice, I was a business developer in the professional services industry. I also sold B2B advertising and data solutions to a range of markets, from construction to pharmaceuticals. I enjoyed closing deals and empowering my new hires to experience the thrill of securing new business.  So, I decided to combine my passion for teaching with my expertise in business development and launched my own consulting business.

Today, I’m excited because I get to work with passionate entrepreneurs who have a track record of delivering consistent, high value products or services but who are unsure what to do next.

My mission is to go deeper and help my clients create a business strategy they can truly “own”, and to give them the courage to keep moving forward, reaching a new level of competitive advantage so that they can grow, make a profit, and feel great doing it.

Emerson Human Capital Consulting

n 2001, Tricia Emerson realized a dream by founding Emerson Human Capital. Trish had spent 11 years leading people and process consulting engagements. Among other accomplishments, she helped create and manage an ERP Change Management practice at a major consultancy, building service lines valued at $38 million within four years. Trish had a passion for helping clients manage change and a unique vision for delivering value. She decided to collect the most talented people she knew and start her own firm.

People are what Trish is all about. She gathered a great group of professionals to comprise our firm. And our clients are truly some of our favorite people. Trish has a motto for Emerson: “Meaningful work with people we love.” She says, “Projects naturally inspire close relationships – we depend on each other to succeed. So even challenging projects become wonderful stories over dinner later. And those brilliant, funny, talented people refer us to their friends. I can’t imagine a better work environment.”

Susan’s career spans 30 years working first for a number of Fortune 500 companies as a Human Resources Executive and then as a Human Resources Consultant and finally as the owner of several business coaching practices.

Susan has learned from owning her own small business coaching practice, that the most important thing small business owners need to get them through the first tumultuous years, is help with their lead generation and lead conversion strategies to generate regular cash flow.  Susan is the author of “45 Minutes Business Breakthroughs”, which identifies simple ways to find $10,000 in any business.  For those interested in taking a deeper dive and really building up their businesses, she has an E-Learning Marketing System with 52 (one a week) lead generation tools that can help any business be successful.

For those businesses already on a strong path and growth trajectory, ready to build a team, Susan can help strategize and execute on building that team and long term, practical Human Resources processes and programs.  Throughout her corporate career she was  an executive and career coach, and found that the leaders she worked with really valued having someone to talk to help them with their employee and leadership issues.    Susan can help with recruiting plans and terminations, training, organizational design, and employee relations to name a few of her areas of HR expertise.

Susan is a sought after speaker and has been a regular webinar presenter on business topics for the University of California, Berkeley Alumni Association.  One of her most popular topics is entitled, Women In Business: Ambition Is Not A Dirty Word, in which she emphasizes the need for women to negotiate and ask for what they are worth. Zap Payroll

Twelve years ago, when I started my first bookkeeping and tax business, I was required to hand-enter my clients’ payroll journal entries from multiple paper payroll reports. I’m talking about reports for one payroll that were at least an inch thick! These were then filed into a binder, only to be looked at again for the annual Workers’ Comp audit. I said to myself, “there has to be a better way.” So a year later, I sold my bookkeeping and tax practice to focus solely on providing the best, easiest, least time consuming and most affordable online payroll services possible, while continuing to provide my clients the local, personalized services to which they were accustomed.
Today, thanks to technology, online payroll services have advanced for the entire payroll industry! Almost every payroll provider now offers online services and we know you have many choices. So how do you choose? Let Zap Payroll help you with that! During your FREE consultation with us, we will find a way to save you money and ZAP the time and pain out of your payroll.
